An introduction to this web site

More and more people are wanting to gain access to land. Whilst most share the aims of wanting to live sustainably and derive at least some of their needs from the land, there is great variation in the details. Some would like to be as self-sufficient as possible, whilst others are more interested in setting up commercial enterprises. Some would like to keep animals for meat or dairy production, whilst others object to such activities on principle. For those who are wanting to buy land in a group, either to manage communally or to divide up into small holdings, it can take several meetings to discover the differences between what each person or couple is hoping for. Sometimes it is impossible to accommodate the differences and the group will split. LandMatch aims to fast-track some of those early meetings, by enabling people to identify others whose visions are compatible with their own. We hope that one or more land-buying groups may arise out of the contacts made at LandMatch. We don't intend to establish one big project, encompassing all who attend LandMatch, but rather to facilitate networking and the meeting of like minds.

An initial, and very successful, meeting was held in South Somerset on 2nd February 2008. This web site has been set up immediately after the meeting to keep the momentum going. It is for anyone who attended the initial meeting, all those who couldn't be fitted in, and anyone else who would like to join in. Please contribute to the information and discussion, and amazing things could happen!

This web site will only work if people contribute to it. It's here to help you achieve your aims.

You can achieve this by:

  • Registering for the forum, then:
    • Write about yourself and your project if you have one
    • Ask questions about people and projects you are interested in
    • Start and join in topics that help everyone to learn and pass on their knowledge
    • Help to make the forum active so it attracts more people to become active
  • If you are organising an event, or know of any event that could be of interest to LandMatch members, e-mail the webmaster details to add to the Events page
  • If you have a link to a useful web site, or find a problem with a link on the Links page, let the webmaster know
  • If you have any documents (preferably in DOC or PDF files) that you think would benefit other people, send them to the webmaster to add to the Documents page
  • If you have any news that would be of interest, tell the webmaster who would be happy to add a news page to this site
  • Write about successful projects, or maybe unsuccessful ones if it would help others to avoid the same problems. The webmaster would be happy to turn this into a web page to add the the Documents section
  • Send the webmaster photos to make the site more colourful and interesting

Don't leave it to everyone else to make this site work, join in and you may find what you are searching for.
